Julia Browne

Assistant Coach

Julia was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area, where she began swimming competitively at the age of nine at Alpine Hills Swim & Tennis Club.  She began her coaching career with Alpine Hills in 1999, coaching the age group team, while lifeguarding and swimming for the team.  During high school, she fell in love with water polo, competing year-round with her high school team Sacred Heart Prep, for top spots in CCS and Junior/Senior Nationals.  After high school, Julia headed to Davidson College in North Carolina where she continued her aquatic career as a coach, founding Davidson’s Club water polo team. She also fed her competitive side by joining the Charlotte Sharks, a men’s Masters water polo team, playing against teams from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Auburn University, and beyond. During her semester “abroad,” she swam with the University of Sagrado Corazon’s varsity swim team in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  After graduation, Julia spent three years in Virginia, swimming with the Arlington Masters swim team and coaching the beginners water polo before returning to California in 2010. She is a terrific team mate, fostering GRA pride and love for the sport – no matter your experience or speed!  But watch out – come competition time, this coach “plays to win.”
